Preparing your child for their first online violin lesson

Scheduling

I will try my best schedule you at you preferred time slot whether you’re in the Eastern, Central, Mountain, or Pacific time zones. If you’re a first-time student with my studio, please use the scheduling request form on my website. Once you’re a student, we’ll come up with a consistent day and time.

If the student is younger than 18, I will email a parent or guardian with the login credentials for each session so that you can share the link with your child 24-hours before the lesson.

Online Lessons

Lessons are virtual. Lesson length varies by experience. I generally recommend longer lessons (45 minutes to 1 hour) for more advanced students to allow time for more development of musicality and refinement of technique.

Please be ready 5 minutes ahead of time with your violin out and your bow rosined, your device set up correctly (and fully charged), with your music on the music stand.

How to Position Your Violin

Your phone, computer or iPad should be set up at eye level. I should be able to see the violin and your body from the waist up, with the scroll and entire bow arm visible. Position your music stand and music to the left and off screen.

Cancellations

My studio business has a 24-hour cancellation policy. Please allow proper notice for rescheduling or cancellations or the full lesson fee will be charged.

Private lesson fees are due on the 1st of the month (for the month ahead). Any missed lessons with 24-hours notice should be rescheduled, and if not can be rolled into the next month.

Students are expected to take weekly lessons unless other arrangements are made with me specifically.

If you have a known conflict with your lesson time, please let me know at the beginning of the month to make scheduling easier.

Parent Feedback

We have been thrilled to have Julie as our daughter’s violin teacher! She brings skill, empathy, encouragement and fun to each and every lesson. She is always in tune with our daughter’s progress and mood as she guides her through a week’s work in online lessons. Julie’s positivity is contagious, and we love how she emphasizes strengths and nurtures areas for development to keep our daughter happily engaged and improving.
